Garmin Acquires Lumishore
Well-known for producing underwater LED lighting systems used by performance-boat manufacturers, United Kingdom-based Lumishore has been acquired by GPS navigation-products giant Garmin Ltd. of Olathe, Kan. The news was announced in press from Garmin this afternoon.

“Lumishore brings an exciting new product category that complements Garmin’s existing marine portfolio and furthers our ability to provide seamless vessel integration,” said Jarrod Seymour, Garmin vice-president/Marine Segment leader, in the release. “As a technology leader in LED lighting, Lumishore will expand Garmin’s innovative solutions all around the vessel. Together, we look forward to delivering unmatched LED lighting technology to our customers around the world.”
The acquisition is the latest big move by Garmin to expand its marine electronics portfolio. In September 2023, the company purchased Florida-based JL Audio.
Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats is among the companies currently using the Garmin, Lumishore and JL Audio brands.
“We got the official word today from Lumishore and we are excited about how our relationship can continue to prosper,” said Trond Schou, the president and co-founder of the Cape Coral, Fla., company. “Garmin is a terrific partner to us, and our companies have gotten even more intertwined after the JL Audio acquisition.”
Mystic Powerboats has been installing Lumishore lighting on its center consoles for several years.
Lumishore offers a wide range of single, dual and full-color-changing underwater and above-water systems. The 15-year-old company was founded by Eifrion Evans.
“Since our founding, Lumishore has been passionate about creating innovative products that enhance the boating experience,” Evans said in the release. “Garmin shares our passion for serving the marine industry, making them an ideal company to carry Lumishore into the future.”
Added Schou, “Lumishore has a terrific product and our relationship is strong. With a powerhouse like Garmin purchasing them, we know that they will have access to more resources and we can’t wait to see what’s up next. We look forward to celebrating with everyone next week at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.”
