Thunder On Cocoa Beach Returning In 2025, Seeking Backers For Block Party
Heading into its 16th year of hosting offshore powerboat racing on Florida’s Space Coast, Thunder on Cocoa Beach will return May 15-18, 2025. The Powerboat P1-produced event is currently the second race of the American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series—it follows the Race World Offshore 7 Mile Offshore Grand Prix in late April—and the first race of the Union Internationale Motonautique Class 1 World Championship.

“We are thrilled to kick off our racing season once again at Thunder on Cocoa Beach,” said Thomas Covington in a press release from Powerboat P1/P1 Offshore. “This event is a cornerstone in the offshore powerboat racing world, and we anticipate fierce competition as teams push their limits to claim the trophy at this prestigious race.”
The Development Council of Brevard County estimated that the four-day event attracted approximately 100,000 visitors to the area this year. Although attendance was at an all-time high, according to the release, the popular parade down Route A1A followed by a Downtown Block Party is facing funding challenges created by the escalating costs.
“Our race-site has grown significantly over the years, making Cocoa Beach a premier race-site on the schedule and a destination event for both race teams and race fans,” explained Kerry Bartlett, the chairman of the Thunder On Cocoa Beach organizing committee, in the release. “However, to provide the necessary resources to ensure public safety and essentials to produce the Downtown Street Party event next year, we will need to raise a significant amount in additional sponsorship.”
