Gallery Of The Week—Meet The Complete MTI Factory Pro Class 1 Raceboat

For its first test session last month at Lake X in St. Cloud, Fla., MTI’s new 482 catamaran built for Pro Class 1 competition didn’t have to look pretty. It just had to run for two days on the hidden waterway so owner/driver Willy Cabeza and throttleman Grant Bruggemann could start gelling together in the cockpit. The 390XR GC Racing catamaran they ran together last season in the 450R Factory Stock ranks also was an MTI creation, but that is where the similarities end between a twin-outboard-powered 39-foot cat and an a 48-footer with 2,220 hp worth of turbocharged sterndrive power.

So the MTI Factory raceboat arrived in basic black. Though it surely was noticed, it traveled from Wentzville, Mo., to Central Florida as a big black blur. Like a black cat of the feline variety, it was stealthy.

Now it’s anything but thanks to a vibrant graphic-wrap handled in-house at the factory.

“It came out beautiful,” said Randy Scism, the founder and president of MTI. “Willy worked with Wes (Jones) on it. They went through several renditions of it.”

Scism paused, then laughed. “I think you’ll be able to see it from a mile away.”

The same Fuchsia hue incorporated into the company’s latest 440X demo catamaran is on the 48-footer.

“You never know that could be next,” said Taylor Scism, the company’s vice president. “It’s nice to keep things fresh.”
