The Right Angle Of The Sea

Great voiceover from “Chasing Mavericks,” a movie based on the short and remarkable life of big-wave surfer Jay Moriarity?
“We call come from the sea. But we are not all of the sea. Those of us who are, we children of the tides, must return to it again and again, until the day we don’t come back, leaving only that which was touched along the way.”
It’s not a great movie—it’s just a guilty pleasure of sorts because I grew up surfing, diving and fishing in Southern California. But that line spoke volumes to me and still does.
I am at my happiest—and I like to think my best—when I’m near, in or on the water. I sleep best to the sound of breaking waves. Beach-sand in my bed is a blessing, not a bother.
I even like the often-mixed scents of beach-tar and rotting kelp.
The owner of Angle of Attack Marine, Chris Richards of New York must be at least part “of the sea.” There’s no other wave to explain his relatively new business based at Miami Beach Marina.

Want to go fast on the water? Angle of Attack Marine is the newest Mystic Powerboats dealer. For those who want to stay above the water at lower speeds, the dealership carries the Cub Crafter line of amphibious aircraft.
Want to try surfing minus the multi-year learning commitment, physical strength and sheer athleticism the sport demands? Angle of Attack is the Fliteboard distributor for South Florida.
Or do you want to go below the water and explore a whole new world? Also located at Miami Beach Marina, Tarpoon Lagoon Dive Center is part of the Angle of Attack business portfolio.
“I’m thinking of a slogan for the new business,” Richards said shortly after launching the venture. “’Why follow when you can lead?’”
The expression fits. Because when it comes to the water, Angle of Attack Marine can get you pretty much anywhere you want to go.—Matt Trulio
