New Boat: Tiara 56 LS

This summer, Tiara Yachts announced its largest and fastest outboard model to date: the 56 LS (Luxury Series). It’s also its first hull with quads out the back, and what a run of quads it is: four Mercury Verado 600 V12s. Those 2,400 horses purportedly push the boat to somewhere to the tune of 50 knots. And however that speed applies to you and your crew, Tiara offers two cockpit modules—one for entertaining, and one for fishing.

Make no mistake, this is a luxury pleasure boat with just enough adventurous fishing flair to be taken seriously—and not vice-versa, fitting the lineup of its four smaller siblings within the LS series, the 34, 38, 43 and 48.

Despite being the fifth installment of the series, the 56 LS is a brand new hull. With its outboard models, Tiara engineers the hull length, shape, beam, deadrise and more to the power. You might call it reverse engineering. The first decision in their designing process is the power: The quad 600s dictate the mold.

“I think we found a nice little comfort zone as far as what is right for us as a brand,” Tiara’s Senior Product Designer, Gabe Rose, told me. “We think our customer really comes to us because of our luxury and what we have to offer first, and then being able to provide them some amenities to do a little bit more exploring or have a little bit more adventure on the side in an appropriate way, in a non-intrusive way, really kind of fits our brand very well.”

Tiara has always had a slightly fishy flair on their cabin cruisers in the way of the basic necessities. Those boats said, sure, plop a rod in the holder and drop a bait in or set a flat line for casual high-speed trolling while you’re on your way from point a to point b. And they’ve done a great job at that: I can recall captaining an older model (then new) for a family who wanted a little help fishing. What comfort compared with the stripped-down Down Easts! And yet, the cockpit was just functional enough to be a dignified dance floor. Tournament anglers might turn their noses up at that boat—and maybe this 56 LS, too—but anyone right up to the most itinerant amateur offshore anglers doesn’t have much room to complain.

And Rose admits as much: “Does that mean we’re not going to go for that hardcore fishing product? …For now, we’re going to try to blend those worlds as best as we can and make sure that we’re flexible and nimble enough to react to the market if it says, ‘Hey, you guys need to take the next step when it comes to the adventure part of what you provide to the marketplace.’ So yeah, it feels like a pretty cool place to be right now because we understand our brand and we understand what our customer expects from us, and then we’re also trying to listen and improve at the same time.”

Of course, as the trend of center consoles upwards of 50 feet continues with more and more yards jumping in, it’s no surprise that Tiara is finally trying its hand at the market. Where do they stand apart? The 56 LS is a sort of quasi center console with an offset pilothouse, which opens up space for a two-stateroom, two-head cabin with space to sleep five.

“We kind of close the one side off and we’ve chosen the port side. But what that allows us to do, and I think we’re best in class here, is an awesome interior. So that gives us all that extra space where we can now take our distribution panels and air conditioners and countertops and stuff, and we can use the full beam of the hull off to that side, which really then opens up room for one or two heads. In this particular instance, it’s two heads and two staterooms. So if you look at how that compares with all the other companies that do a great center console and have great fishing amenities, their interior cabin space isn’t quite the same.”

Fold-down gunwale doors also widen the beam by more than 6 feet, and a generous settee and dining table are other notable, if common features.

This is the sort of boat for when you decide you want something family friendly, but still want something your angling friends won’t sneer at when they’re invited to (speedily) jaunt to the bluewater grounds.

The boat will officially launch at the Miami International Boat Show in February 2025, and we’ll be there.
