MLF Pros, Suzuki Marine & Madison Academy Team Up for Youth Outreach and Lake Cleanup
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (April 4, 2025) – Major League Fishing (MLF) pros, in partnership with Suzuki Marine and Madison Academy, took time ahead of Bass Pro Shops REDCREST 2025 Presented by MillerTech Energy to engage in meaningful community and environmental initiatives in Northern Alabama.
On April 2, professional anglers split their efforts between two impactful events: a visit with students at Madison Academy and the Suzuki Marine Lake Cleanup at Lake Guntersville.
The day began with MLF pros Drew Gill, Nick LeBrun, and Competition Official Brian Poppe visiting second and third-grade students at Madison Academy. They read fish stories, shared conservation messages, and fielded questions about life as a pro angler.
“It’s incredible to see the students’ enthusiasm for fishing and the environment,” said Gill. “I remember being their age not very long ago and dreaming of becoming a professional angler…”
The pros also met with the Madison Academy High School Bass Fishing Team, sharing stories, giving advice, and inspiring the next generation of anglers.
Simultaneously, more than 40 participants, including over 20 pro anglers from MLF and the Elite Series, gathered at Civitan Park for the Suzuki Marine Lake Cleanup, part of Suzuki’s CLEAN OCEAN PROJECT. In just two hours, the team collected over 242 pounds of shoreline trash, making a visible environmental impact.
Adding some fun, a “mini weigh-in” challenged anglers to guess the total haul, with the closest estimate winning a Suzuki Marine gift pack.
“It’s amazing to see everyone come together to make a difference,” said REDCREST 2025 competitor and Suzuki Marine pro Matt Becker. “We compete hard on the water, but it’s important to work together to ensure our lakes, rivers and oceans stay clean and sustainable for generations to come.”
The effort was supported by the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association, and the Madison County Commission.
“We’re so grateful to our partners at Suzuki Marine and our local hosts for making the lake cleanup such a success,” said Joe Opager, Sr. Director of Communications for MLF.
From classrooms to shorelines, this joint effort highlighted the powerful role the angling community plays in environmental stewardship and youth engagement.
