Doug Wright 42 Carbon Waves And Wheels Edition Out Of Paint, New 39 Carbon On Deck
It’s been a busy 2024 so far for Justin Wagner, the owner of Waves and Wheels and Bluave Marine Audio in Osage Beach, Mo., and this week doesn’t look any different. Following his visit a week and half ago to Doug Wright Powerboats in Melbourne, Fla., to meet with the leadership team and check in on a few builds Waves and Wheels has on order—including the dealership’s third catamaran, a 39-footer that was delivered to Missouri early last week for all of its finishing details—Wagner made sure the company’s second Doug Wright was on target for its March delivery after it came out of the paint booth last week.

The 42 Carbon Waves and Wheels Edition Doug Wright that recently left Osage Beach-based Graphix 1 Paint, which Wagner co-owns with his friend Any Imhof of Maryland Offshore Performance Marine Center, is on target to be wrapped up and delivered to owners Dave and Susie Burgess in the next month or so.
The 42-footer, which is powered by twin Mercury Racing 500R engines (the same power is going on the new 39-footer), has some custom touches to help Dave Burgess, who is president of Raymond Excavating Company and Raymond Cranes in Marysville, Mich., get on and off the boat with his handicap. Upon delivery of the cat, which is the subject of a documentary build video that is being produced by Speedonthewater.com and Scrapyard Media, the unique features Waves and Wheels did to the boat will be highlighted.
“I can’t even begin to explain how sexy-looking the new 42 Carbon is,” said Wagner, who is headed to Miami later this week to attend the Miami International Boat Show and the Friday night Florida Powerboat Club/Speed On The Water Miami Boat Show Bash, which Waves and Wheels is a supporting sponsor of this year. “I thought the quality of the 36 Carbon paintjob we finished this summer was really nice, but damn this 42 is even better. Our team just continues to raise the bar; I’m so impressed.
Pictured in the slideshow above, the new Doug Wright 42 Carbon Waves and Wheels Edition is going to be featured in an upcoming video on the Speedonthewater.com YouTube channel.
“I’m very happy with how the boat turned out—it is so classy looking and I think a lot of people are going to dig the color scheme and overall look,” he added. “It’s what Dave wanted and that’s what really matters. We can’t wait to deliver this thing.”
Wagner, who is hoping to get to test the 42-foot cat on Mercury Racing’s Lake X prior to delivery, said his deal with Doug Wright Powerboats is really starting to shape up now that he has his first 39, which he said is moving right along with paint preparation at the moment.
“We’re going full steam ahead, you know, which is perfect,” Wagner said. “We literally pulled the 42 out of the booth and put the 39 in. We’re all pretty excited about this 39 Carbon—I think it’s going to be a hell of a boat. The customer, who owned a 36-foot Doug Wright prior to this, wanted to keep it clean and simple, which is cool because it will be a little different than our first two Doug Wrights.

“Our intention when we took on the Doug Wright line was to do a 36, a 39 and a 42, and get one of each out there—that was my original goal,” he continued. “Fortunately we’ve accomplished that and Doug Wright has done a great job getting them done in a timely fashion. We also have 36 No. 2, 39 No. 2 and 42 No. 2 in various stages of production, which means they’ll be coming down the pipeline very soon.”
And that means, as Wagner emphasized, that all three of those boats are for sale with the ability for customers to make them their own from paint to interior.
Wagner added that thanks to his partnership with Doug Wright, Waves and Wheels has been getting more interest from customers with older Doug Wright cats for overhaul projects. And that has him particularly excited. That’s because the project side of the business—which is still cranking from within his lakeside property, The Boardwalk at Waves and Wheels—is what put Waves and Wheels on the map. It’s also because he knows he could be working with his next new Doug Wright customer.
