Coil In Performance Powerboats Owners Group, Corbel Named PBC-Florida General Manager – Speed on the Water

From Class 1, Super Cat and Super Stock team driver to Performance Boat Center service manager, Myrick Coil has a heady resume in the go-fast boating world. Now the 46-year-old, who lives in Lake Ozark, Mo., and began his career working with David Scott of Nauti-Marine, can add a new item to the list.

More precisely, Coil is a member of the three-man group of owners behind Performance Powerboats. Along with Performance Boat Center principals Mark Waddington and Brett Manire, Coil is now part-owner of the three-model catamaran line.

“It just gives me more stuff to worry about,” Coil said, then laughed. “I’m kidding, of course, and it was very generous of Mark and Brett to make me a part of it. I guess it really hasn’t set in that now I have a stake in Performance Powerboats. But I love the brand and I would do anything I could to make it the very best.

“Like our whole team, I think of Performance Boat Center and Performance Powerboats as my own,” he continued. “That’s part of what has made us successful.”

Though Performance Boat Center headquarters is squarely at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri, the MTI, Performance Powerboats and Sunsation Powerboats dealer has a growing location in Hollywood, Fla. South Florida-based marine industry veteran Tim Gallagher is still with the Hollywood facility and is still working remotely in sales as he and his family are taking a sailing sabbatical. But to help expand the location and establish a great presence in the area, Waddington recently hired Jeff Corbel as general manager.

A Chicago-based entrepreneur once entrenched in the electrical construction world, Corbel has no marine industry experience. The 50-year-old is, however, a former go-fast powerboat enthusiast who has owned models from the Fountain Powerboats and Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats brands. He met Waddington and Manire several years ago during the Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run and they became friends.

Corbel and his wife, Jennifer, are in the process of relocating to Fort Lauderdale. The couple’s 18-year-old daughter, Makenna, currently works in the yacht charter business as a crew-member.

Flanking their daughter Makenna, Jeff and Jennifer Corbel are relocating to the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., area from Chicago.

“My goal is to build the business in Florida,” Corbel said. “Our parts department is great, our service department is great and our front office is great. I will be looking to add to the sales team and one of our goals will be to do all of the Florida poker runs.”

Corbel does not currently own a boat. “Mark told me that the best part of this job is that you don’t have to own a boat,” he said, then laughed.

Added Waddington, “Jeff has a high-performance boating background, but he’s more of a businessman than a ‘pure’ marine industry guy. He’s run his own successful businesses and started his own companies. We’re happy to have him join our South Florida team.”
