An Inside Look At One Clever MTI 390X Cockpit Layout

An Inside Look At One Clever MTI 390X Cockpit Layout

As reported yesterday on speedonthewater.com, well-known performance-boat owner Johnny Schillace was keeping his new MTI 390X catamaran under wraps until last night’s Wiseguys Daiquiris of Hammond welcome party ahead of this weekend’s Tickfaw 200 Poker Run in Springfield, La. The party reportedly attracted a solid turnout.

MTI has now created two 39-footers with this unusual six-seat cockpit. Photos courtesy MTI.

“It was a good a time, mostly locals,” said Casey Harrison, one of the poker run’s former organizers. “There were maybe 70 people at Wiseguys when I left, but I left at 10.”

But if you weren’t there, you didn’t get to see the Mercury Racing 500R outboard engine-powered 39-footer or its intriguing six-seat cockpit configuration.

Another look at the cat’s seating layout.

The second such setup of its kind for MTI—the first went to Matt Jamniczky, the driver of the Rollin Transport/SV Offshore Racing Super Cat-class Outerlimits raceboat—the layout has two bucket seats forward for the driver and co-pilot. Two more bucket seats, one starboard and one port, are just aft of the forward pair.

The final two seats are side-by-side and centered in the rear of the cockpit. On the side of each seat, there are molded steps for easy cockpit access frm the cat’s transom.

A secret no more, Schillace’s MTI 390X will be a frequent sight this weekend.
