Bahamas-Bound Brands

Quick quiz: What is closest island country to the United States by water? You have 10 seconds to answer.
If you came up with the Bahamas, you’re correct. If you choose the island of Bimini in the Bahamas archipelago, you’re even more correct.
If you’re still scratching your head, you either failed geography or the U.S. education system failed you.
Regardless, Bimini is just 50 miles from Miami. But in the winter, the short Atlantic-ocean, Gulf Stream crossing is often miserable. And that, combined Sunshine State’s oppressive summer heat, most groups in the go-fast boating world only travel there from May through August.

This year, at least three brand-specific fleets will head to the island nation. The first is MTI, which has 21 boats registered up for its Bahamas adventure. The trip is set for May 6-11 and the owners of 21 MTI-V center consoles have signed up.
Next up is the Mystic Powerboats Bahamas Run. John Cosker, the owner and founder of the DeLand, Fla., company expects 10 to 20 Mystic owners and their guests to participate in the June 2-8 event.
The Florida Powerboat has three Bahamas treks scheduled this summer, the first of which is the 34th annual Bahamas Poker Run slated for June 11-17. That event is followed by the brand-specific Nor-Tech Invitational Bahamas Run scheduled for August 5-13. Last but not least is the club’s August 26-September 1 Northern Bahamas Island Hop.

As with the MTI and Mystic trips, centers consoles are the vessels of preference for the Florida Powerboat Club’s Bahamas runs.
Of course, it’s worth noting that hurricane season in Florida and the Gulf of Mexico runs June 1 through November 30, though peak activity is mid-August through mid-October. All dates are subject to change based on weather, and organizers rightly err on the side of safety.
After all, you want your Bahamas trip to be best trip of your life, not that last one.—Matt Trulio
