Weather Forces IBEX Cancelation

Slated to kick off this Tuesday in Tampa, Fla., the International Boatbuilders Exhibition and Conference—or IBEX in marine industry parlance—has been canceled in advance of Tropical Storm Ian, which is predicted to make landfall in the area early this week. The news announced in a press release from the organizers this morning.

“It is a very difficult decision to cancel IBEX 2022, as we were on track to have an excellent event,” said Anne Dunbar, the IBEX show director, in the release. “The entire IBEX team is very disappointed, but the safety of our community is our priority.

“This was the right choice,” she continued. “Additional information will be shared with exhibitors and visitors as we work through our cancellation process.”

Frank Hugelmeyer, the president of the National Marine Manufacturers Association, said that the decision to cancel was unfortunate, but exhibitor and attendee safety is the foremost concern.

“The safety of our team, exhibitors and partners is our top priority and given the significant and unpredictable nature of the coming storm, canceling the show is imperative to keeping everyone out of harm’s way,” he said. “IBEX is the premier recreational boating trade event delivering critical business for our industry and as such this decision was not made lightly.”
