Sunsation Dominating Kuttawa Sign-Ups
“Sunsation Nation”—an apt handle for famously loyal Sunsation Powerboats center console and sportboat owners—is already coming out in force for the Kuttawa Cannonball Run set for May 31-June 1. Of the 72 boats currently registered for the eighth annual event in Old Kuttawa, Ky., 16 are of the Sunsation kind. The next closest brand is Outerlimits, which currently has seven entries.

Why the big number of Sunsation-owner sign-ups? Ryan Wenk, the Algonac, Mich., company’s national sales and marketing manager, offered a couple of explanations.
“It’s well-known that we have a lot of our older sportboat models throughout Kentucky, but it is also home to the biggest collection of Sunsation CCX center consoles anywhere in the country outside of the Lake of the Ozarks area,” he said. “We’re excited to formally support the Kuttawa run as a sponsor, and we’re excited to see Sunsation Nation well-represented at this event.”
A Sunsation 36 CCX owner and one of the event’s organizer and founders, Terry Martin had another explanation.
“I told Wenk we needed a Sun Run in Kuttawa,” he said, then laughed. “When I am on a mission, I go all in.”
Wenk described Kentucky as having “the biggest collection of Sunsation CCX center console anywhere in the country outside of the Lake of the Ozarks area.”
Jeff Hoefling, another member of the Kuttawa organizer and founder group, had a different opinion on the subject.
“Center consoles have invaded our lakes,” Hoefling, who owns an Outerlimits SC 37 catamaran, said then chuckled. “They are the most bang for your buck, and more people can afford a Sunny than an MTI.”
