Second Day Of Lake Of The Ozarks Shootout Opens With 186- And 207-MPH Runs

Day No. 2 of the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri opened with a bang, and we mean the good kind. On their first—and what will their only—pass of the day, Jim Schultz and Mike Faucher piloted Factory Billet, their 51-foot long Outerlimits V-bottom to 186 mph.

Schultz described the run, which topped the Illinois-based duo’s prior high mark of 164 mph, as flawless.

“Out of all the times we’ve done it, and I think it’s been six years now, everything was right—the approach to the flag and anticipating it so we could pull boost, our line down the course, which you want to take at angle and everything else was perfect,” he said. “The boat settled down immediately and pulled all the way through.

“The crazy thing about it?” he added then laughed. “We were running in test-boost mode. We could add another six pounds of boost. But we are happy with that number.

Asked if they’ll come back next year, Schultz laughed again. “Probably,” he said. “We’re always hoping for improvement.”

For perennial overall Shootout Top Guns John Cosker and Tony Battiato in the 51-foot Mystic American Ethanol, their 207-mph pass seemed equally effortless and upped their previous best performance of 204 mph on three-quarter-mile course. It was especially satisfying given that engine issues prevented the team from breaking 200 mph in last year’s event.

“I hoping for a number like that, of course, but I didn’t know if it was going to happen,” said Cosker. “But right off the line, we had great rpm and the boat really loosened up. I had to adjust the trim a little bit, but mostly I just left it alone.

“It was a fantastic weekend,” he added.
