Gallery Of The Week: Branding Together At The Shootout

At least five high-performance powerboat builders—DCB Performance Boats, MTI, Mystic Powerboats, Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats and Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats—had outings for their loyal customers on the Lake of the Ozarks this past week. That’s a growing trend for the annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout that, in conjunction with Super Cat Fest, brings hundreds of the world’s hottest high-performance boats to the aquatic playground in Central Missouri.

The Outerlimits crew got an early start for a breakfast run to Jolly Rogers Grub & Grog, followed by a private party at the organizer’s home. Photos by Jeff Helmkamp copyright Helmkamp Photos.

While speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden shot from a helicopter much of the time, contributing lensman Jeff Helmkamp did most of his work at water level. As it happened, that put him in the perfect position to capture brand-specific runs held by MTI and Outerlimits on Friday.

Organized by Michael “Doc” Janssen—and followed by a party at his waterfront home—the Outerlimits fleet headed to Jolly Rogers Grub & Grog for breakfast. Michigan’s gracious John and Julie Tokar, who own a canopied SV 43 from the Bristol, R.I., boat builder, even picked up the tab for the group.

For the healthy group of MTI owners, a lunch run to The Cave was on Friday’s menu.

While the Outerlimits group had less than a dozen boats on hand, the MTI group had more than two dozen in its fleet. That makes perfect sense, of course, as the Lake of the Ozarks is home-water for the custom catamaran and center console builder. But for the MTI faithful, the destination was lunch at The Cave Bar & Grill.

Editor’s note: Look for a wrap-up on today’s Lake of the Ozarks Shootout competition this afternoon.
