S2 Powerboats And Vision Marine Up The Electric Power Ante With 111-MPH Shootout Pass – Speed on the Water

S2 Powerboats And Vision Marine Up The Electric Power Ante With 111-MPH Shootout Pass – Speed on the Water

Coming into the 35th annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout this weekend, no one had more at stake than Shaun Torrente, Sean Connor and the team at Montreal, Canada-based Vision Marine Technologies. Torrente wasn’t simply trying to up the electric outboard motor-powered boat speed-record of 109 mph, which he set during last year’s event in Central Missouri in a 32-foot catamaran from Hellkats Powerboats of Miami. This time around, he was running a 32-foot cat of his own creation as earlier this month Torrente and Connor, his business/Super Stock-class offshore racing partner, officially launched S2 Powerboats.

The 32-footer is their first model.

(From left) Xavier Mongeon, Sean Connor and Shaun Torrente took a moment to savor their new record—but Torrente will be heading out to try to up it later today.

So Torrente and Connor were all smiles after today’s 111-mph pass, the first one of the day, this morning.

“We got what we wanted,” he said. “With everything we’ve been working so hard on for the last few months, it feels good.

“But we’re going to go back out again and try to get more,” he added.

Torrente said he expects their second run to happen in the next hour.

As previously reported, S2 Power Boats offered up its very first 32-foot canopied catamaran to Vision Marine with a goal to further elevate its electric propulsion record at the 35th annual top-speed event. Hull No. 2 from the S2 Power Boats, which was grateful to Vision Marine as well as its other partners, Charleston Composites, Mannerfelt Design, Raymarine and Weisman Transmissions, for the opportunity to make history again, is going to be Conner and Torrente’s new raceboat. They expect to debut the boat in Key West, Fla., in November.

“We are committed to pushing boundaries that will redefine the essence of speed and performance on water, raising the global standard for competitors,” said Xavier Mongeon, Vision Marine’s chief technology officer in the speedonthewater.com story on this year’s collaboration. “The 35th edition of the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, set against the captivating backdrop of Lake of the Ozarks, serves as the arena for this audacious endeavor.”

This is a developing story. Look for an update following Torrente’s next pass in the electric outboard motor-powered catamaran.
