In the News: Nor-Tech Calling On Industry For Final Hurricane Ian Relief Push
–>
With facilities in Fort Myers and Cape Coral Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boat has been leading high-performance marine industry fundraising efforts in Southwest Florida communities damaged in September by Hurricane Ian. The center console, V-bottom sportboat and catamaran builder teamed up with Mercury Racing for a matching funds effort—to the tune of a combined $50,000—that raised more than $114,000 for the Cape Coral Caring Center, a 32-year-old food pantry and community assistance center. The company called its customers and dealers to step up for the cause, and both groups rose to the occasion.

Now Nor-Tech is asking its fellow marine industry players to help make a final fundraising push.
To that end, Nor-Tech management sent out an email today to its marine industry colleagues and competitors urging them to purchase Hurricane Ian Recovery T-shirts—a joint venture between the boat builder and Mercury Racing—for their staff members, take a group photo of those staffers in their shirts and post that photo on social media, as well as encourage their own clients and vendors to purchase shirts. The proceeds will still go to Hurricane Ian relief efforts in Southwest Florida.
To date, almost 2,000 commemorative T-shits have been sold.

“The high performance boat industry is a tight group—and not just in reference to our market segment,” explained Trond Schou, Nor-Tech’s chief executive officer and co-founder. “We all participate in the same events and often share clients. So it’s only natural that we are able to count on each other in times of need. And after Hurricane Ian, Southwest Florida is still in need of some help.
“So this campaign is similar to the one we launched for Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas,” he added. “We might be competitors but we’re all still family.”
Shortly after the email was sent this afternoon, Stu Jones of the Florida Powerboat Club stepped up to order shirts for his crew.
The deadline for marine industry businesses to post images of the teams wearing the T-shirts to their social media portals is December 15. Would-be supporters also can order them by clicking here.
Speedonthewater.com will run a follow-up story with the results when the new campaign is complete.
