Nor-Tech At 35—Charity Starts At Home

With more than 10,000 articles in its archives and an excellent search function—it’s the button in the upper right-hand portion of your screen that says “Search” and, yes, people ask—speedonthewater.com is an unmatched research tool for high-performance powerboating fans. In fact, I just used it myself to explore the charitable breadth and reach of Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats.

Serving its local community is among Nor-Tech’s top priorities outside of boat-building.
The results were inspiring. Giving back has long been to integral the Cape Coral, Fla., center console and catamaran builder’s corporate culture and mission.
The most prolific example of Nor-Tech happened during its 30th anniversary in 2021. Of course, the company threw a massive bash for its customers, employees, dealers and vendors on the Friday night finale of its annual dealer meeting at the Westin Cape Coral Resort. No one who knows the Nor-Tech folks would expect anything less.
So ferocious was the partying—blame the late-1980s Miami Vice theme if you will—that Florida Powerboat Boat head Stu Jones actually gave a Nor-Tech employee the colorful shirt of his back. For good reasons, the departure time for the Saturday lunch run got pushed back an hour.

Nor-Tech sprung to life with food drives following Hurricane Ian and the pandemic of 2020.
But here’s how Nor-Tech really celebrated the milestone. Every month that year, the company launched a new charitable initiative in the Cape Coral and Fort Myers area. Every month, a nonprofit outfit such as the Cape Coral Caring Center food pantry was the beneficiary of Nor-Tech’s largess.
The following year, Hurricane Ian slammed into Southwest Florida in late September. Faithful to its own philanthropic ethos, the company put significant repairs to its own factory behind raising money and gathering food and supplies for its local community. In one of its many storm-relief initiatives, Nor-Tech partnered with Mercury Racing to raise almost $115,000 for Hurricane Ian relief efforts.
During the pandemic of 2020, Nor-Tech went into the personal protective equipment production business, though “business” is the wrong word because it all happened on the company’s dime. Throughout the year, the company gathered food and supplies for those in need.
Of course, Nor-Tech’s charity is ongoing and it continued its outreach following Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
How devoted is Nor-Tech to charity? If you want the company to help fund an event, the event needs a strong charitable component. Otherwise, you can forget about it.
Which reminds me that with Nor-Tech being the presenting sponsor of the upcoming 2025 Florida Powerboat Club/Speed On The Water Miami Boat Show Bash—set for February 14 at the Sagamore Hotel—we need to come up with a benefitting charity. Knowing the Nor-Tech crew, I’m sure they already have plenty of ideas.
Because that’s just how they think.
