West Michigan Offshore Changing Host Venue And Name For Season-Opener – Speed on the Water

The opening event of the West Michigan Offshore season, Muskegon Powerboat Weekend is departing its longtime Mart Dock home-base and moving to Adelaide Pointe on the shores of Muskegon Lake in 2024. Starting next year, the two-day event set for June 21-22 will be called the Adelaide Pointe Powerboat Weekend.

“Ryan Leestma, who owns an Outerlimits SV 29 is one of our members, is building a brand-new facility at the Adelaide Pointe development,” explained Scott Otterbein, the president of West Michigan Offshore. “It will have a wet marina, a dry marina, a brewery and a restaurant. We just completed an agreement with Ryan for Adelaide Pointe to be the title sponsor of the 2024 season-opener.

“Mart Dock was very good to us over the years and it was the best option we had,” he continued. “We are still going to support its LST historic battleship charity.”

On the opening evening of Adelaide Pointe Powerboat Weekend, Adelaide Point Marina—reportedly the first marina facility built on the Western Michigan coast in the past 30 years—will host a dock party for West Michigan Offshore members ahead of the Saturday’s poker run.

Though the details have not been finalized, Otterbein also said the poker-run will be extended. The previous course on Lake Michigan covered 60 miles. The plan is to add 20-plus miles to the run with a card stop south of Muskegon on Pigeon Lake.

“We have thought about extending the run for years, but Lake Michigan is so unpredictable,” he explained. “But we’ve been adding bigger-boat members while membership of smaller-boat owners has declined. The bigger-boat guys want to run their boats and the water conditions are less of an issue for them.”

Registration for West Michigan Offshore members and sponsors opens February 1.
