Video Flashback: GSX/Glasstream Powerboats O.G. Kruis Retherford
The news of Taylor’s Scisms advancement to MTI vice president reminded me about another strong female leader in the high-performance boat-manufacturing world. And as it happens, she was the subject of a late-2023 “In The Lead” series video produced by speedonthewater.com and Scrapyard Media.

As the longtime owner of Glasstream Powerboats in Dothan, Ala., and the relatively new sporty GSX center-console line, Kruis Retherford is leading her company toward a bright high-performance future. Retherford has been running powerboats since she was a pre-teen. If you couldn’t find her in a boat in the Gulf of Mexico while she was growing up in Destin, Fla., you’d most likely find her flying down a beach on the back of a horse.
Her boat-driving and horseback-riding skills are now, of course, every bit as good as you’d expect them to be.
Retherford and her team unveiled the GSX line model-by-model last year. As previously reported on speedonthewater.com, the company will have all three offerings—28-, 32- and 36-footers—on display at the Miami International Boat Show, February 14-18.
She’ll also help show Florida Powerboat Club members and special invited guests a bit of her Southern hospitality at the Florida Powerboat Club/Speed On The Water Miami Boat Show Bash, on Friday, February 16, as GSX/Glasstream, is a supporting sponsor of the party.
