Located in the Burnt Store Marina—a planned community in Southwest Florida—a boat ramp off Ceitus Parkway has become a daily drop-off spot for essential items needed by residents of neighboring areas devastated by Hurricane Ian. From there, those items are being delivered by various boats to victims the Category 4, which made landfall last week in the Fort Myers/Cape Coral  area.

Needed items include:

• Clothing
• Personal hygiene products
• Over-the-counter medication (pain-relievers, etc.)
• Fuel (propane, gasoline, diesel)
• Grills, charcoal, firewood and candles
• Food and water
• Batteries, flashlights, chargers
• Bedding and tarps
• Insect repellant
• Coolers
• Cleaning supplies

All deliveries must be made by 8 p.m.

Headquartered in Naples, Fla., CMR Construction and Roofing is helping to spread the news of the drop-off spot and the need for donations though its social media portals, email outreach and more. The company, which is a significant sponsor in the offshore powerboat-racing world employs more than 500 people nationwide, is entrenched in the local community. Brett Durham, one of its employees in the Southwest Florida is among those spearheading the collection effort.

“Brett has done so much individually but needs more support and supplies,” said Chuck Spicer, the director of motorsports for CMR Construction and roofing, in a company-wide email. “We are here to help and support everyone.

“A lot of people are rebuilding their lives and have nothing,” he continued. “Think about what you use daily. Any donation is appreciated as we help our families and friends in Florida.”
