Super Stock Team Savage Set For Sarasota Debut

Super Stock Team Savage Set For Sarasota Debut

There was good news and bad news last weekend for Chad Havens during the Texas Outlaw Challenge in Seabrook, which is about 31 miles outside of Houston. First the bad—the Texan’s 40-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran wasn’t ready in time for event’s top-speed shootout.

No doubt, with its twin engines approaching the 2,000-hp mark watching the 40-footer rocket down the course would have been fun for the fans.

With the Texas Outlaw Challenge top-speed shootout behind it, Team Savage is slated to take the Super Stock-class green flag this Saturday in Sarasota, Fla.

And now the good—Havens ran Team Savage, a Super Stock-class 32-foot Doug Wright raceboat he is sponsoring this year, with throttleman Randy Scism to a class-winning 112 mph on a day that saw temperatures soar to 110 degrees.

Better still, the 32-footer will debut this weekend at the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix produced by Powerboat P1. As he will throughout the 2023 season, driver Bryan Marquardt with join Sweers in the cockpit in the Southwest Florida event. The two are racing together for their second full Super Stock season.

The team had initially planned to debut the cat last month at Thunder On Cocoa Beach, the second contest in the five-race American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series, but the boat wasn’t ready. It’s ready now, according to Sweers.

With backing from Texan Chad Havens, Sweers and Marquardt are eager to start their offshore racing season in the Team Savage catamaran.

“We’re going to try to get a day of testing it before we race in Sarasota,” he said. “It looks like we’ve got everything back together on the boat and we are looking to be in the top three and have a podium finish.

“We have a few set up changes were dialing in that might take us a few races to master,” he added. “But we think we can put this boat at the front of the pack.”
