Scott Free Racing Inks New Backer For 2025 Mod-V Season

Though most fans know Boatfloater.com as a Mod-V-class team based in Sarasota, Fla., the outfit’s official name—Boatfloater.com is the handle of the team’s primary sponsor—is Scott Free Racing. The name honors the late Scott Kildahl, the brother of team owner/throttleman Steve Kildahl.

Sonic Tools USA is entering the Mod-V sponsorship ranks with its support for the Scott Free Racing team.

Neither of those team names will change, but come mid-May at the season-opener in Cocoa Beach, Fla., fans will spy another name on the single-engine V-bottom. Sonic Tools USA has signed on as a sponsor for the 2025 season and, according to a press release from the team, “will provide the team with state-of-the-art tools to enhance its maintenance, repair and performance capabilities throughout the season.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Sonic to the Scott Free Racing family,” said Stephen Kildahl, who drives the boat alongside his father. “Having reliable and efficient tools is critical to our success on the water, and Sonic delivers the level of quality and performance we need to compete at the highest level.

“Their support will be a game-changer as we prepare for a strong 2025 season,” he added.

According to the release, the Alabama-headquartered, professional-grade tools and storage-solution company is “known for its precision, efficiency, and durability—qualities that align perfectly with the demands of offshore powerboat racing.” The partnership with Sonic will enable Scott Free Racing to “optimize its technical operations, ensuring that their race boat is always in peak condition.”

The collaboration will also include branding opportunities, social media engagement, and fan-focused activations throughout the season.
