Recapping the 2025 Bassmaster Classic

The 2025 Bassmaster Classic at Lake Ray Roberts will go down in history as one of the most competitive and record-breaking events to ever take place on the Classic stage. The winner, 23-year-old Easton Fothergill (Minnesota), broke the all-time record for total tournament weight in the Bassmaster Classic, which was previously held by bass fishing legend Kevin VanDam. With 76 pounds and 15 ounces, Easton paved the way for the younger generation of anglers at the biggest stage in bass fishing.

Among the top performers, the Northeast’s very own Tyler Williams—a.k.a. “The Maine Event”—of Belgrade, ME, made a valiant effort, finishing in 14th place and holding inside the top 10 for much of the tournament.

Tyler went to work doing what he does best in his home lakes of Maine: throwing a jig. Williams has made a name for himself on the Bassmaster Elite Series for that very reason, blending an old-school technique with new-age technology and tactics. Tyler frequently refers to his roots of perfecting the jig back home in Maine, proving once again that Northeast anglers are built to compete with the best.
The other two Northeast-based anglers that fished the Classic were Alex Wetherell (Connecticut) and Kyle Patrick (New York). Both guys had a slower tournament, but adversity helped them realize what it takes to earn the right to fish the biggest event in the sport. “This is what dreams are made of, it takes a lot of hard work and preparation to be here—work that not many people see or recognize. To have this dream opportunity become a reality means everything,” said Wetherell.
Alex made it clear that he did not take the opportunity for granted, as an amazing 2024 season on tour proved him worthy of competing in his first ever Bassmaster Classic. These three anglers will be back on this stage again. And one of them just may be the next Bassmaster Classic champion.
