As if plummeting temperatures—and take that with a grain because we do live in Northern California and we’re kind of wimpy when it comes to weather—weren’t enough to remind us that the holiday season is here, we’re in mid-production of our 2022 Year In Review print magazine. No doubt about it, building a 196-page, oversized photo-rich print publication is a labor not always loved this time of year, there’s no way to get it done earlier.
The final blockbuster events of the season, the Race World Offshore World Championships and the concurrent Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run happened just three-and-a-half weeks ago, the Offshore Powerboat Association Englewood Beach World Championships finished up a week later and the Toys Tour, an incredible event based on getting gifts into the hands of children who would otherwise go without, is this weekend.

Leaving out any one of these fine events simply isn’t an option.
Plus, OK, despite that we are a two-man shop—the only thing we don’t handle is printing and the first-round of shipping—when it comes to producing Year In Review, it’s a blast. Much as we love the challenge of producing daily news from the high-performance powerboating world online, professionally speaking we “grew up” in the print world. No one was more unhappy when print magazines went south following the 2008 recession (truth be told they’d been headed that way for some time) but it was either evolve to the digital world as professionals or perish.
And we didn’t want to perish. We love what we do. We love bringing you the news. We love the high-performance marine industry and many of the people in it.
Despite that our production costs for the magazine have gone up 20 percent, we are not raising the cover price, which is $30 per issue if you order before December 30 and $35 per issue after that date. As the advertisers supporting the publication can tell you, we also didn’t raise our ad rates.
So at least one good thing in your life—and a darn reasonable one by go-fast boating economics—won’t come at an inflated price. Click here to order your issues now.
