The decision reportedly was based on sparing the equipment for tomorrow’s race, which is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

“The owners voted on it,” said Myrick Coil, the driver of the Super Cat-class M CON team, which is addition to racing in the Sunday Super Cat contest are debuting their new Monster Energy-backed Skater 438 Class 1 raceboat. “But I always enjoy qualifying because it gives you an idea of how good your set up is.

“I guess we will have to figure it out on our own,” he added, then laughed.

Said Jay Muller, the throttleman for the Super Cat-class WHM Motorsports team, “It was a good call. Qualifying at 3:30 p.m. the day before we race at 11:30 a.m. did not make sense.”

In what turned out to be the only Super Cat action at the season-opening, Race World Offshore 7 Mile Offshore Grand Prix in Marathon, Fla., the teams had a qualifying round that saw M CON take first, KLOVAR Motorsports claim second and WHM Motorsports finish third. (All three teams run Skater 388 catamarans powered by Sterling Performance engines.)
