Florida Powerboat Club’s Stu and Jackie Jones Heading To Bago Big Bet

Florida Powerboat Club’s Stu and Jackie Jones Heading To Bago Big Bet

Despite that he’s traveled to poker runs he doesn’t organize every summer for the past three decades, Florida Powerboat Club head Stu Jones has never participated in one in Wisconsin. That will change come June 20-23 as Jones has registered for the inaugural Big Bago Bet event presented by Mercury Racing in Oshkosh.

The veteran poker-run organizer and his wife, Jackie, are bringing their Top Gun Flight 1130, a 38-foot Cigarette Racing Team Top Gun sportboat powered by twin Mercury Racing 565 engines, to run in the event.

“I have never been to any boating events in Wisconsin which, by some strange irony is the home-state of Mercury Racing, the company responsible for manufacturing 99 percent of all the high-performance hardware that we use in our poker-run machines,” he said. “When I heard about the details of the upcoming  Bago Big Bet event in Oshkosh, I figured I wasn’t going to let this one get by me.

“Although I hadn’t planned on doing a summer tour with the Cigarette, it just so happens my good friend Devin Wozencraft, who also is signed up for the Bago Big Bet, offered me a ride on his 34-foot Victory cat during the event,” he continued. “That made the decision to attend even easier. Of course I wouldn’t head that way without getting some time in at the Mercury Racing facility in Fond du Lac. So I am planning extra days for the visit and maybe even get a little sightseeing in along the beautiful shoreline of Lake Michigan.”

Organizer Shannon Higgins said she is looking forward to hosting the Florida Powerboat Club couple. They join a list of big names in the go-fast boating world, including Wozencraft and Good Boy Vodka company (a Bago Big Bet sponsor) owner and Class 1 offshore racer Alex Pratt, the New York-based father-and-son duo of Shane and Blake Mahieu and DCB Performance Marine M37R Cowboy and Indian catamaran co-owners Kelly O’Hara and Kiran Pinisetti, who are signed up for the event.

“The Bet is thrilled to host Stu and Jackie Jones for our June event,” she said. “The boating community is such a tight-knit and amazing group of people, and the support of Stu and the Florida Powerboat Club is humbling. I’m looking forward to showing them Wisconsin for the first time and having an amazing event.”

Registration for the Bago Big Bet closes May 24.
