Performance-Boat Passion Burns Bright In Brazil
In concert with his boat-building enterprise in Sao Palo, Brazil, and ongoing collaboration with Statement Marine, high-performance marine industry veteran Randy Sweers currently is in the South American nation. Business brought Sweers, who lives in Pompano Beach, Fla., and returns to the United States early next week, to Brazil. But didn’t stop him taking time to enjoy the country’s go-fast boating scene.

“It might not be what it is in the U.S.A., but there are some hardcore performance-boat enthusiast here in Brazil who absolutely love the sport,” he said.
To that end, Sweers enjoyed an approximately 85-mile run from Rio de Janeiro to Angar earlier this week with friends on a 40-foot V-bottom powered by a pair of supercharged 800-hp engines equipped with IMCO drives. He was hosted by his friends Adrianno and Marcello Simonini and another gentleman who goes simply by the name “Kide.”

Though rough seas in the 3- to 6-foot range greeted Sweers and company, they made the trip in 1 hour and 35 minutes. And that included spending 15 minutes changing a fuel pump along the way.
In Angar, they joined up with local go-fast boating enthusiast Alexandre Andrade, Jr, who owns a Cigarette 38 Top Gun powered by upgrade MerCruiser 496 Mag engines.
“Kide and Alexandre are no strangers to high-performance as they are avid, racecar drivers, pilots—we flew from Sao Paolo to Rio with Alexandre on one of his planes—and performance-boat enthusiasts,” said Sweers. “I obviously have spent a lot of time in Brazil during the last few years but had not spent much time in Rio or Angar. All I say is, ‘Wow.’
“And I also can’t thank Alexandre and Kide enough for their hospitality,” he added. “Everything was first class.”
Said Sweers, “There are some hard-core performance-boat enthusiast here in Brazil who absolutely love the sport.”
