Outerlimits Continues Pre-Shootout Fun Run Tradition – Speed on the Water
“Hot as …” insert your favorite noun and you’ve summed up the weather this week at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri. I’m not a big fan of “weather leads” in reporting as they lean toward lazy, especially two days in a row. But when the weather becomes an unavoidable part of the story, when every person you interview starts with, “Well, first off, it was hot as … “ they’re kind of hard to avoid.

Of course, the heat hasn’t stopped the show from going on ahead of this weekend’s top-speed competition on the three-quarter-mile course. Upholding a longstanding pre-Lake of the Ozarks Shootout tradition, a group of Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats owners, led by Wisconsin’s Jeremy Tschida in his SC 37 catamaran, gathered yesterday for a photo shoot and fun run.
The group started at the Camden On The Lake Resort and headed to Jolly Rogers Grub and Grog for breakfast/brunch. From there, the fleet went to Big Dick’s Halfway Inn before calling it a day.
Joined by Audra Meyer in his 39 GTX V-bottom, Indiana’s Jeff Hoefling of Indiana was in the mix.
Even the nasty Central Missouri heat couldn’t keep the Outerlimits faithful off the water yesterday.
“It was a great time, even though it was hotter than hinges of hell,” said Hoefling, who is one of the organizers of the annual Kuttawa Cannonball Run in Kentucky. “We called it after Big Dick’s. It got too hot for boating.”
Also from Indiana, Donnie MacLeod ran his brand-new SC 37 cat with a vibrant Stephen Miles Design paint job. He was joined by Matt Jamniczky, the driver for the Super Cat-class SV Offshore Racing team. Cara MacLeod and Jennifer Jamniczky, this wives, opted out.
MacLeod, who typically runs on the calmer waters of Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake, was delighted with cat’s performance on the churned up Lake of the Ozarks.
Donnie MacLeod and Matt Jamniczky enjoyed “two good, long rips” in MacLeod’s SC 37 cat before calling it a day and heading to the Camden On The Lake swimming pool.
“It handled amazing in that water,” he said, then laughed. “Cara and Jennifer went shopping so Matt and I could have a great boat ride.”
But like his fellow Outerlimits owners, MacLeod called it quits after the stock at Big Dick’s.
“It was a hot one, so we opted for the pool at the Camden because it was the only one we knew that wasn’t bath water,” he said, then chuckled again. “Plus we didn’t mind stopping after having two good, long rips on the lake.”
Outerlimits SC 37 catamaran owner Jeremy Tschida spearheaded yesterday’s effort.
