WILKESVILLE, Ohio, September 17, 2024 — The National Professional Fishing League (NPFL) is gearing up for its 2025 season, announcing that applications for a coveted spot in its 130-angler field will open on October 1, 2024.
Anglers eager to compete can visit the NPFL website, www.thenationalprofessionalfishingleague.com, to fill out the application form. The application window closes on October 31, 2024.
Anglers who are currently on the NPFL roster do not need to reapply, but must confirm their participation in writing by the same deadline.
A Platform for All Anglers
“The NPFL offers a platform for all anglers to prove their skill and dedication at the highest level, regardless of their background,” says Brad Fuller, President of the NPFL. “We’re committed to providing a fair and competitive environment, and we look forward to assembling a diverse and talented field of 130 anglers.”
The 2025 NPFL season will feature six regular-season tournaments, spanning multiple states and seasons, from spring to fall. In addition to these events, anglers will vie for a spot in the 2025 NPFL Championship, where the best of the best will compete for top honors. Each tournament will test the skills of the anglers, from seasoned veterans to emerging talents, and the NPFL remains dedicated to maintaining a level playing field for all competitors.
Forward-Facing Sonar Ban
The NPFL recently made headlines by becoming the first major professional fishing tour to ban real-time imaging units, commonly referred to as forward-facing sonar, starting with the 2025 season. This decision was made in line with the NPFL’s mission to uphold the integrity of the sport and ensure that all anglers compete on equal footing. The ban will not apply to the 2025 NPFL Championship, for which competitors are currently qualifying under prior rules.
Building a Strong and Committed Field
The selection process for the NPFL’s 2025 season is designed to ensure that only the most committed and skilled anglers make the cut. Applicants must agree to participate in all six regular-season events, forming a locked field that guarantees a dedicated group of competitors for the entire season.
“We take our selection process very seriously,” Fuller notes. “We interview each angler before they’re accepted. No one is automatically given a spot based on past wins or sponsorships. We’re not just looking for great anglers – we want great people who are passionate about the sport and align with our mission.”
Fuller emphasized the NPFL’s focus on finding partners, not just competitors. “You can sign up tournament anglers at any boat ramp on a Saturday morning,” Fuller adds. “We’re looking for anglers who are ready to grow with us and help improve the sport we all love.”
2025 Schedule and Next Steps
The full 2025 NPFL tournament schedule will be revealed before the application period closes at the end of October. Competition for spots is expected to be fierce, as the league continues to build a strong roster of top-tier anglers.
