Nor-Tech Unveils First Outboard Engine-Powered 420 Monte Carlo

Until today, the general public hadn’t seen a Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats 420 Monte Carlo model with anything other than Mercury Racing sterndrive power, from supercharged 700s to the turbocharged 1100s. But with outboard engines dominating power and propulsion in the go-fast boating world, it was only a matter of time—and a bit of demand—before the Fort Myers, Fla., company built with outboards.

And that, in addition to a 400 SS center console, was exactly what Nor-Tech unveiled today at the Miami International Boat Show—a sleek, silver and decidedly sexy 42-foot Monte Carlo powered by triple Mercury Racing 500R outboard engines. For company co-founder and president Trond Schou, equipping the Euro-style sportboat with the most powerful outboards from the Fond du Lac, Wis., high-performance marine engine and accessories company, was almost a no-brainer.

“Why did we do it?” he asked, then laughed. “Because we can. No, really, everybody has outboards these days. It’s hard to sell boats with inboards right now.

“We had the Monte Carlo concept before with inboards and it was very successful,” he added. “Obviously, we expect it to be just as successful with outboards. Like the Flyer models—all of those have outboards.”

Outboard engine power was inevitable for the Nor-Tech 420 Monte Carlo.
