That Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats’ Southwest Florida facilities in Cape Coral and North Fort Myers are still standing is a blessing for founders Trond Schou and Nils Johnson and their more than 200 employees. Both structures are inland of the shoreline impact zone, but both took direct hits from Hurricane Ian last week and damage, according to dealer manager Geoff Tomlinson, was light relative to the intensity of the Category 4 storm.

“The North Fort Myers shop, where we do our lamination work, had minimal damage to its exterior and the interior was just fine,” said Tomlinson, who traveled across the state several times during the weekend with members of the Nor-Tech team to retrieve water and food for Nor-Tech employees and community members in need. “The Cape Coral location, which is where we handle rigging, had the most damage outside though it wasn’t bad, but everything inside the building was fine. Our employees have been arriving for the past several days to help put everything back together.”

Power has already been restored to the North Fort Myers location. Though the Cape Coral plant is still without electricity, both facilities have running water.

As noted above, the Nor-Tech team has been making trips across the state for water and food to bring back food and water for those in need. Well-known for community-based philanthropy, the company is just getting started.

Nor-Tech’s philanthropy for the local community are just getting started.

“We have been absolutely overwhelmed—that’s the best word I have for it—by the response and offers of support from our customers, dealers and vendors,” said Tomlinson. “Knowing our reputation for charity, they know that we have something up our sleeve and have said, ‘Whatever you do, we’re in.’

“Our biggest concern now is for the well-being of our employees—plus making sure they have a place to come back to work—and their families, as well as all the members of our surrounding community,” he added.
