New Video—Spirit Makes Miracles At The 2024 Kuttawa Cannonball Run
The subject of a new video from the team at Speed On The Water and Scrapyard Media, the Kuttawa Cannonball Run has been on a nearly vertical trajectory since it started eight years ago. The annual Kentucky-based event had earned recognition while raising much-needed funding for services and programs in the local community.
The organizers of Kuttawa Cannonball Run refused to give up on the eighth annual event. Find out why in the new event video.
The 2024 event was shaping up for a record-setting 200-plus boat turnout. More boats in the water means more action to capture. More important to the story demanding to be told, it means bidders at the Saturday night auction. And more bidders means more money raised for important causes in Lyon County.
Everything was in place for another fine event—everything that is, except weather and water conducive for a high-performance boating event. From excessive debris in Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake to wind-driven rain that would shut down Saturday’s lunch run, conditions couldn’t have been worse. Participants, many of whom never took their boats off their trailers, left in droves. Organizers Jeff Hoefling, Terry Martin and Stephen Miles—and their ever energetic auctioneer/emcee Nolan Ferris—even entertained taking the auction online and keeping it there for the following week.
Doing an interview with the Scrapyard Media team with a rain poncho over his sweatshirt, multi-time participant Justin Snook of Michigan embodied the spirit of the Kuttawa Cannonball Run.
From every possible angle—including a long-planned documentary video—the 2024 Kuttawa Cannonball Run was shaping up to be a train wreck.
But then something extraordinary happened. The remaining participants rallied to raise more than $80,000 during the Saturday night auction. They refused to give up and, in the process, created one of the most memorable evenings in the event’s eight-year history.
The results of the auction—as you’ll see in the 2024 Kuttawa Cannonball Run video—were simply extraordinary.
Was it some kind crazy miracle? Or was it just a group of human beings at their very, very best? Watch the video and find out for yourself.
