Mercury Marine Means Billions To Local Fond du Lac Community
A new study conducted by Envision Greater Fond du Lac reveals that Mercury Marine, which is based in the Wisconsin city, has a $5.4 billion annual economic impact on the local community. According to the local business-development organization’s research, the number represents an approximately 10-percent increase above that of just three years ago.

Mercury Marine announced the results in a press release on its website last week.
But the annual economic impact goes well beyond the 4,200 people employed by the marine propulsion and accessories giant at its 3 million square-foot campus. According to the survey, each Mercury Marine job supports 2.5 full-time jobs outside the plant in Fond du Lac for a total of 10,500 jobs.
“Mercury Marine’s impact goes well beyond the impressive 4,200 employees, as the impact study shows,” said Sadie Vander Velde, president and chief executive officer of Envision Greater Fond du Lac, in the release. “Mercury Marine supports a number of indirect jobs, for example in grocery stores, health care, entertainment and retail.
“As Mercury continues to grow, it continues to positively impact our economy and improve our quality of life in Fond du Lac.”

Mercury Marine’s impact on retail activity in the regions also remains robust, according to the release, and accounts for more than $333 million in community retail sales.
“We are proud to call Fond du Lac our home and be a part of the fabric of Wisconsin business for more than 80 years,” said John Buelow, Mercury Marine president, in the release. “We are committed to remaining a catalyst for economic growth and will continue to elevate the impact we have on our community for years to come.”
