‘Langheim Versus Langheim’ Coming To 7 Mile Offshore Grand Prix

The oldest son of reigning American Power Boat Association Super Stock World Champion Reese Langheim, Connor Langheim been around the offshore since his father started in the sport eight years. In 2003, he competed for the first time at the Race World Offshore Key West World Championships in the Bracket 700 class.

The Super Stock-class Jackhammer Boat has a hot new look for the 2024 season.

This Sunday at the Race World Offshore 7 Mile Grand Prix in Marathon, Fla., will be Connor Langheim’s first Super Stock-class contest. He’ll be sharing the cockpit of JS Racing with team owner/throttleman John Strama.

Though world-championship-winning father will be in the Super Stock-class mix in the Jackhammer raceboat alongside throttleman Julian Maldonado, the youngest offshore racer in the Langheim family is taking is both laidback and excited heading into to the weekend.

Connor Langheim has grown up in the sport alongside his father.

“I just want to go out there, have fun and learn,” he explained. “Super Stock is the class I want to be in, so when Johnny called me earlier in the week asked me to drive for the Marathon race I figured I should try it out with him.”

His father is somewhat less relaxed heading into the weekend.

“I’ll be nervous as heck with Conner being in Super Stock,” Reese Langheim admitted. “I love it, I love his passion but it does scare the crap out of me to see him racing in the largest and most competitive class.

“I’ve talked to him and explained how things are likely to be out there,” he added. “I think he’ll be fine.”

Fans of the Super Stock class will notice that the Jackhammer raceboat’s graphics were heated up in the off season. Manatee Marine Unlimited in Palmetto, Fla., handled the job.

“We did the paint in house,” said Julian Maldonado, owns the business with Sara Langheim. “It took us about two weeks from start to finish. It’s Porsche lava-orange on the hullsides and canopy. The deck is whisper-grey. We also did some nice flakes in the paintjob, and when the boat is out in the sun that creates some crazy effects

The Jackhammer team is ready for the season with fresh graphics for its Victory catamaran.

Asked if there will be any sort of competition between him and his son, Langheim shifted into his trademark comedic mode.

“You never let your kids win,” he said deadpan. “You teach them to compete. If they start crying, you did something right.”
