Lake Erie Awareness Day

Lake Erie Awareness Day

Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory will host Lake Erie Awareness Day on August 8, 2024 from 10am-4pm at eight different locations around South Bass Island, Ohio, including South Bass Island Lighthouse, Oak Point State Park, Put-in-Bay Chamber of Commerce, Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial, Cooper’s Woods Preserve, the Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center, and South Bass Island State Park. The free, family-friendly event will include stations highlighting the cultural and historical significance of the islands, showcase local wildlife, point out land conservation efforts, touch on pressing environmental issues and help raise awareness of aquaculture and safe and clean boating practices.

“We are very excited to be hosting the fourth annual Lake Erie Awareness Day,” says Tory Gabriel, Ohio Sea Grant’s Extension program leader. “Every year we welcome more residents and visitors to this day of fun, education, and stewardship and we thank our many education partners who help make this day possible.”

The event will also include a trash removal technology demonstration with the floating, remote-controlled mobile waste collector Pixie Drone at the Bathing Beach. Attendees who visit all the stations will be entered to win an exciting island-themed prize.
