Kuttawa Cannonball Run Online Registration Closed With Early Sign-Up Record
Performance-boat owners not currently registered for the eighth annual Kuttawa Cannonball Run, set for May 30-June 1 in Old Kuttawa, Ky., will have to sign up on site. Online registration closed yesterday with 142 boats on the roster, a record for the event with just one week to go before Saturday’s 120-mile lunch-run on Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake.

“We’re pleased to say we had more people registered online than last year at this time,” said Jeff “Jefe” Hoefling, who organizes the event with Terry “T-Bone Martin” and Stephen “Tucky” Miles. “We can’t wait to see everyone.”
The feeling among participants, particularly of the returning kind, is beyond mutual.
Showcasing his 34-foot Victory cat for the first time in the Kuttawa run, Devin Wozencraft is a two-time veteran of the event.
“I am ready to get back to Kuttawa for sure,” said Devin “Wozen-Tucky” Wozencraft, a two-time Kuttawa Cannonball Run veteran who will run his recently repowered 34-foot Victory Wozencraft Insurance catamaran in the event for the first time. “It’s a great event put on by great people.”
Not only does Kiran Pinisetti of Indiana enjoy the run every year, he and his wife, Jessica, work in the event-tent as volunteers on Saturday evening. Like Wozencraft, Pinisetti has a new ride—a DCB Performance Marine M37R catamaran called Cowboy & Indian he co-owns with Upstate New York Kelly dairy farmer Kelly O’Hara—to showcase in the event.
Minus his DCB M37R catamaran co-owner Kelly O’Hara, Kuttawa event participant and volunteer Kiran Pinisetti will run Cowboy & Indian with friends this year.
“I am stoked for next weekend,” he said. “The fleet at Kuttawa is always the perfect blend of ultra-clean, classic inboard sportboats combined with brand-new outboard powered catamarans and center consoles. Genuine Midwest hospitality provided by the event leads to some remarkable charitable giving during the evening’s auction. It will be great seeing so many of our friends there.”
Pinisetti’s DCB cat-partner O’Hara will not make it this year as he has a family obligation.
The Friday lunch-run and raft-up are musts for anyone coming to the Kuttawa Cannonball Run.
“The ‘Cowboy’ will be missed,” quipped Pinisetti, who is of Indian descent. “Evidently, Kelly’s sister didn’t get the memo. We don’t schedule weddings during poker runs.”
On-site registration will be open Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the event-tent in the Kuttawa Harbor parking lot. The tent, which doubles as the venue for the Saturday night auction, is next door to Hu-B’s at Kuttawa Harbor restaurant, the venue for Thursday night’s welcome party.
Sunsation Boats is among the high-performance marine industry companies backing the event this year.
Another record-setting number for the Kuttawa happening at present, 25 sponsors have stepped up to help support the event, which raises money for children’s charities in Lyon County. They include returning backers such as Henry Fligeltaub Company, WIA Marine Insurance and Lively Machine Company, as well as new backers including Cigarette Kentucky, Super Cat Fest and Sunsation Boats.
“I’m already working on next year’s event,” Martin said, half-jokingly. “ This one is all but wrapped up.”
Captured here during the 2023 Kuttawa Cannonball Run auction with South Carolina’s Chuck Stark, Mike Goldbaugh (left( of Alabama is running his Pure Platinum-edition Skater 388 catamaran in the event for the first time next weekend.
