“Autism just a soft spot for me,” explained Garcia, who founded the Keys Island Runners Group through Instagram. “I have two cousins that have Autism and some close friends whose children have it as well. It’s something that we are seeing a lot more with our children in the Florida Keys these days.

“Hearing stories from my friends, I truly know that this program helps the families in need,” he continued. “So it’s only right for Keys Island Runners to help out when we can.  ”

Registration for the run, which will benefit, the nonprofit Autism Society of the Keys group, will be open tomorrow afternoon at the docks behind the Beachside Resort in Key West.

The weekend itinerary includes early an Friday evening raft-up off Sunset Key, followed by a “meet-and-greet” event and additional registration at the host venue. The poker run starts Saturday and includes stops at Wisteria Island and Woman Key.

A poolside party and card-hand play at the Beachside Resort followed by an “after party” upstairs at Rick’s on Duval Street will follow.

“I’m expecting about 50 boats for the run,” Garcia said, then chuckled. “But I always think low and it always ends up being more.”
