Everything Boating
Had everything gone to plan, the first day of competition at the Race World Offshore-produced Key West Offshore World Championships would be underway and would continue until the late afternoon. Today’s action would have kicked off storylines that would continue throughout the week. Broadcasters Todd Swofford and Eric Colby would be calling the action live for the broadcasts on the Race World Offshore YouTube channel and Facebook page, and offshore powerboat racing fans would be in Key West-tinged heaven.
Sporty conditions prevailed during yesterday’s test session at the 43rd annual Key West Offshore World Championships. Photos by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.
Except it didn’t work out that way. Tropical Storm Rafael forced the organizers to cancel today’s action during the Tuesday morning drivers’ meeting. But that didn’t stop teams from testing on yesterday, and speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden was there to capture the action.
As you can see from the images on this page, conditions were sporty. Like most folks in town this week, I’m looking forward to seeing what the empty water looks like today.
Worth noting? The images above aren’t the only offshore racing action fans will get to enjoy today. The first episode of “Super Cat – Race For US-1,” aired today on the Speed On The Water YouTube channel.
The Kildahl family of the Mod V-class Boatfloater.com team enjoyed yesterday’s practice action in Key West.
