In the News: Jumping Into June: High-Performance Powerboat Events Go Big

–>

Every June, the go-fast boating event focus shifts from Florida—winter’s boating-place-to-be— to the rest of the country. This June is no exception, with events from Texas to Kentucky on the books and still taking sign-ups. Here’s a quick look at what’s on tap.

The first of many go-fast boating events this month, the Kuttawa Cannonball is shaping up to be another gem. Photo by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

Kuttawa Cannonball Run
June 3-4, Kuttawa, Ky.
In 2021, the Kuttawa Cannonball Run had its biggest turnout to date with 180 registered boats and a live auction that raised more than $50,000 for local charities. The big question this year: Will the event set another participation record? Smart money says it will as more than 100 powerboat owners have signed up and registration is still open.

The Lake Race
June 2-4, Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.
The second event in the eight-contest American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series, the Offshore Powerboat Association-produced Lake Race could have the largest turnout of Super Cat-class teams in its history. And with all the Super Stock teams that call the Lake of the Ozarks home plus teams from out of state, that category will be packed.

Four Horsemen Poker Run
June 10-11, Oshkosh, Wis.
Capped at 50 boats, the Four Horsemen Poker Run is the jewel of Lake Winnebago, and the Sweetwater Performance and Marina/Dockside Tavern host-venue is perfectly self-contained. It’s an intimate event with a warm vibe—and registration is still open.

Performance Boat Center Rendezvous For Cigarette Owners
June 17-18, Osage Beach, Mo.
Though Performance Boat Center is no longer a Cigarette Racing Team dealer, the multi-brand full-service dealership is keeping alive the event it started—and self-funded—for the past seven years. More than 100 Cigarette owners have participated in past events, which include Friday and Saturday fun runs, parties and more. Almost 70 participants have registered so far—and registration is still open.

Lake Cumberland Thunder Run
June 17-19, Jamestown, Ky.
The second go-fast boating event in Bluegrass State in June, the Lake Cumberland Thunder Run is based out of State Dock and produced by the Lake Cumberland Powerboat Club. Lead organizer Justin Lucas always keeps it fun and casual. There’s still time to sign up.

Support Our Troops Poker Run
June 24, Osage Beach, Mo.
Produced by Big Thunder Marine, the Support Our Troops Poker Run is among the most beloved annual events at the Lake of the Ozarks. The happening not only provides a day on the water for men and women in the armed services, it raises money for H.E.R.O.E.S Care, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping veterans transition to civilian life. Sponsors for the event, which is still open for registration, include  Poly Lift Boat Lifts, which has supported the event since its inception, Dog Days, Jay Enn Corporation, Dock Works, WIA Marine Insurance, Midwest Boat Party, Pro DeZigns, Bob’s No Wake Zone, Coconuts, Lake Burger, Tap & Grill, Neon Taco, Glencove Gas Dock, Bear Bottom, Frankie and Louie’s, and Paradise.

Texas Outlaw Challenge
June 22-26, Seabrook, Texas
Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, the Texas Offshore Challenge offers a little something for everyone, from a poker run and a top-speed shootout to an exhibit on the Kemah Boardwalk to a massive pool party at the home of high-performance powerboating bon vivant Kenny Armstrong. Would-be participants can click here to register for the Gunslinger Poker Run and here for the shootout.
