Jodie White of Oroville Calif climbed into first place adding five fish for 1499 to his Day One limit of 1368

REDDING, Calif. – Increased sunshine and light winds met the BAM Tournament Trail anglers on their second day of competition at the inaugural Pro/Am at Lake Shasta. Jodie White, of Oroville, Calif., climbed into first place, adding five-fish for 14.99 to his Day One limit of 13.68. His two-day total of 28.67 pushed him from 7th place into the lead.

Running three spots, White’s bites were whittled to half, with 40 keepers yesterday and 20 today. “Hoping for five tomorrow,” he added. His lull from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. created a long day of hurry up and wait. “It makes it hard to get excited about what will happen in the afternoon,” he said. Although most of his day was without action, his grind ended well when he pulled out a four-pounder about 2:15.  It was definitely a difference-maker in the box, as over the past two days, he reported reeling in 21 fish that weighed exactly 2 pounds, 10 ounces.

Tomorrow is up in the air for White with the baitfish having moved out of his target area. “Typically, it takes three days for the fish to leave after the bait leaves, tomorrow’s the 4th day,” he shared. “We will see what happens.”

Tanner Spohn Moves To 2nd

NorCal angler, Tanner Spohn of Oakley inched up one position on the leaderboard, with a collective total over the two days of 28.37.

Spohn is making a long run and a sharing a spot with another boat, that is also in the top-10. His bites are few and far between. “It was a struggle,” he said. “I haven’t been catching a lot, but the ones I caught were good.” He had a limit by noon, and only five bites all day.

Spohn feels the decreasing water levels are a factor in his bites. “I don’t think it is the lake dropping, but the rivers were swole from so much water coming in; it looked like it dropped one to two foot and it kind of messed with those fish,” he said. “Making that adjustment (pulling out) was the key.”

Jordan Kunde Holds In Shasta Top-Three

Also posting a Day Two total in the 28-pound range, Jordan Kunde from Palo Cedro, put 12.00 up against his Day One limit that included the day’s 6.63 Big Bass to earn his Day Two 3rd place position with 28.37.

Dropping water and high sunny skies made it tougher for Kunde. His bite count tallied no more than seven keepers. “My target weight was 13-pounds and I snuck in with 12,” he said.

He feels his presentation is what sets him apart. “It’s mostly finesse; but I’m going for reaction bite with a finesse bait,” he revealed. The targets for his collab technique included timber and current.

His plan for tomorrow is to fish on the fly. “I have one good starting spot and then I will just go fishing,”

BAM Shasta Day Three

The competition will resume Sunday, February 25, launching at safelight from Bridge Bay Marina. Fishing is slated to commence under full sun, and bluebird skies with northerly winds at 3 MPH or less in the morning and a direction switch to light breezes from the south mid-day. A 7 percent dip is expected in the day’s high air temp. Sunday’s weigh-in will kick off at 3 p.m. at Bridge Bay Marina. Awards will be presented following the weigh in.
