Hometown Favorite Chris Lane Takes Command at REDCREST 2025 on Lake Guntersville

Guntersville Pro Advances to Championship Sunday with 127 Pounds Over Two Days

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (April 4, 2025) – Lake Guntersville local Chris Lane delivered a dominant performance on Day 2 of Major League Fishing’s REDCREST 2025 Presented by MillerTech Energy, securing his spot in Sunday’s Championship Round with a two-day total of 44 scorable bass weighing 127 pounds. Lane’s strong showing gives him a rest day on Saturday while the remaining 19 anglers battle it out in the Knockout Round.

Intense Early Battle Turns into Lane’s Show

The Friday competition began wide open with five anglers taking turns at the top of SCORETRACKER®. But by the second period, it was a two-man race between Lane and fellow Alabamian Jacob Walker. Lane surged ahead with his best day yet—landing 24 bass for 72 pounds, 9 ounces—the best single-day total of the event so far.

“I took that [forward-facing sonar] off my boat so I could focus on how I like to fish,” Lane explained. “That decision paid off big time.”

Mastering Shallow Spawners Without Forward-Facing Sonar

Lane chose to remove his forward-facing sonar before REDCREST began, relying instead on his years of experience fishing shallow. The rising water levels and warming temperatures created perfect conditions for spawning bass to move in—conditions Lane was ready for.

Using a Texas-rigged Bass Pro Shops XPS Log Father, Lane located and caught high-quality bedding fish, including four bass over 4 pounds. His 7-pound, 5-ounce giant earned him the Berkley Big Bass Award and another $1,000 paycheck.

Weather Could Shake Things Up on Championship Sunday

With thunderstorms in the forecast and the possibility of fluctuating water levels, Lane isn’t counting on duplicating his Day 2 strategy. But he’s confident in his ability to adjust.

“I’ve got 978 other spots where they like to go this time of year,” Lane said. “The day off will help me refocus and adapt to whatever conditions we get on Sunday.”
