Grant’s Signature Racing Flush With Doug Wright Build-Outs – Speed on the Water

The throttleman for the Super Cat-class Valder Yachts/Pro Floors Racing and Class 1 XINSURANCE teams, Grant Bruggemann of Grant’s Signature Racing in Bradenton, Fla., isn’t necessarily the busiest guy in the high performance marine industry. Such things, of course, are impossible to accurately measure

But he’s definitely one of them.

Much of that has to with his ongoing build-outs of 32- to 38-foot catamarans from Doug Wright Powerboats across the Sunshine State in Melbourne, Fla. Most recently, Bruggemann and company completed a 36-foot Doug Wright for repeat client Ricky Alvarez. The cat is powered by Mercury Racing V-6 400R outboard engines.

Next up is a 38-footer that will be powered by Mercury Racing 450R outboard. That cat is the property of go-fast boat aficionado Danny DeSantis of Massachusetts.

“We just pulled that one out onto the shop floor yesterday for rigging,” said Bruggemann. “Jamie Borg is doing interior, and as usual it will be totally custom. I’d say the whole thing will be finished in eight weeks.

Currently being rigged at Grant’s Signature Racing, this 38-footer will be Danny DeSantis’ first catamaran from Doug Wright Powerboats.

“After that, we’re doing a 32-foot Doug Wright for Ricky Delgado of Maxed Out Marine in Arizona,” he continued. “That one is getting the Mercury Racing V-10 400-hp outboards.”

The Arizona-bound cat will be the first Bruggemann has powered with the V-10 mills. The Fond du Lac, Wis., company unveiled the new outboards earlier this year at the Miami International Boat Show.

Once completed by Bruggemann and his crew, this 32-footer will be delivered to Maxed Out Marine in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

“The ‘rigging architecture’ is mostly the same for all Mercury Racing outboard, but the 400-hp V-10s are heavier than the other engines,” he said. “So set-up will be a little different. We have may to move some weight around.”

Last but not least—for now anyway—is a 36 Doug Wright cat headed to repeat client Steve Johnston. Doug Harrell Designs handled the paintwork for the boat. He also painted the color-matched Mercury Racing outboards that will power it. Premier Performance Interiors of Sarasota, Fla.

Johnsotn’s 36-foot cat is being set up with Mercury Racing 450R engines.

“This is the second boat we’ve done for Steve,” said Bruggemann. “The first was a 32-foot Doug Wright with (Mercury Racing) 300Rs we handled for him in 2020.”

Grant’s Signature Racing currently has five Doug Wright projects in the works.
