Eclectic Group To Tackle Fun-Run ‘Four By Four’ In Southwest Florida

Dubbed the “Four By Four” by Maine’s own Michael Howe several years ago, this year’s post-Christmas week of fun runs in Southwest Florida starts with a lunch trek to Tampa and finishes with the Joey Gratton Memorial New Year’s Day Fun Run to Caddy’s restaurant in Bradenton. This time around, the serial inventor/entrepreneur and his friend Shaun Torrente, who lives in Cape Coral, will lead a healthy contingent of out-of-towners through the week of good times and speed on the water.

The group includes performance boaters Jordan Hart of Wisconsin, South Carolina’s Chuck Stark, Greg Scheller and Ray Brasher of Kentucky, and several others. Howe, who will run his MTI 440X, will be the farthest traveled. But thanks to the Howe2Live YouTube channel he hosts with his wife, Sarah, the waters of Southwest Florida and the Florida Keys are more than a little familiar to the charismatic couple because they own a home in the Keys.

“It’s going to be a great week,” Howe said.

For the first time, a trio of DCB Performance Marine M37R catamarans will be part of the fleet. Scheller is bringing his 37-footer, as is Dan Kuhn of Fort Myers, and Kelly O’Hara of Upstate New York and Indiana’s Kiran Pinisetti. Both Scheller and Pinisetti took Torrente’s catamaran driving course.

Torrente and his wife, Flavia, have taken the lead on welcoming the group. They’re even hosting a dinner at their home for everyone.

“Flavia and Shaun have been very generous with their time in helping us with an agenda and logistics,” O’Hara said.

Said Torrente with a chuckle, “We’re going to show them how we boat here—we do 700 miles in one week. It’s going to be really cool.”
