Donzi Unveiling ‘New Direction’ Model In Miami
Though it won’t be displayed in the Miami Convention Center or in the water at Sea Isle Marina and Yachting Center during the upcoming Miami International Boat Show, a new 45-foot model from Donzi Marine will be on display and available for demo rides at a soon-to-be-disclosed Miami location during the February 14-18 event. According to Fred Ross of Iconic Marine Group, which encompasses the Donzi, Fountain and Baja powerboat lines, the 45-footer will signal a “new direction” for the vaunted Donzi line.

“We will be going with a more European flavor for, but still with great performance, for Donzi,” Ross explained. “In my opinion, center consoles are in some ways already starting to run their course—not everyone wants all that wind on them. I want us to be ahead of it. So we are going with a new direction with Donzi.”
Available in open, enclosed and coupe deck layouts, the new Donzi V-bottom series will include 54-foot and 65-foot models. All of the new offerings will be built at the Fountain Powerboats facility in Washington, N.C. Mercury Marine Verado 600 outboard engines will provide the power for all three offerings.
Ross and Fountain Powerboats chief operating officer Jeff Harris are leading the new-model project as former Donzi head departed the company last month.
“Craig is a great guy—I still consider him a friend—but this was not his direction or idea,” said Ross.
Barrie was equally gracious and amicable about his exit from Donzi.
“It’s all good,” he said. “ I have nothing at all negative to say. We had a great team with Pete Caldwell, Billy Moore, Allen Wells and me. The boats looked hot and we had great dealers with orders in place and sold retail boats. I wish everyone nothing but the best.”
