Colby Miller Dominates at Sam Rayburn Reservoir | Bass Angler Magazine

At just 24 years old, Colby Miller has emerged as a rising star in the world of bass fishing, capturing attention with his remarkable talent, dedication, and string of recent victories. Hailing from Elmer, Louisiana, Miller’s path to triumph underscores a relentless passion for the sport and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

In 2017, he made a significant mark by clinching victory in the ALBC State Champion event and the B.A.S.S. Nation State Championship held at Toledo Bend. Since 2018, he has been a regular contender on the Major League Fishing Toyota Series.

Recent triumph came in late February at the renowned Sam Rayburn Reservoir in east Texas, where Miller delivered a commanding performance. “I knew it was going to be pre-spawn and the fish were going to be making their move, headed toward the bank,” he said.

“Going into it, I tried to find areas where the fish were funneling through, whether it be drains, cuts, whatever—just try to find fish that are traveling to those places, from deep to shallow.” He finished day one with 27.04 pounds on a body of water that he says is, “Kinda like home.” During day two, nine professionals showcased catches of 23 pounds or more. However, following an outstanding performance on day three, Miller claimed the top spot with a remarkable total weight of 77.7 pounds, securing a check worth $72,809.

Miller is not one to stay idle and during his time between pro tour events, he was back at Sam Rayburn Reservoir March 7-9, fishing the three-day Brandon Belt’s Grand Slam. Miller picked up right where he left off two weeks previous; on day one, he landed a bass weighing in at 10.21 pounds.

“The fish just continuously kept moving and gradually got closer to the bank. So, I focused on the little areas, certain little hard spots close flats that fish were pulling up to throughout the day to feed. I just hoped that my timing was right, and I would be there when they pulled up,” said Miller.

Whether he’s competing in local tournaments or on a national stage, Miller’s expertise on the water is unquestionable, evident in his strategic approach to tackle selection. “I started the day using an Epic Baits Football Jig; 3/4-ounce in camo. And then I was throwing a Neko Rig with 3/32-ounce Epic Baits Nail Weight.” Miller and teammate Cole Moore weighed in 76.01 pounds over three days, which earned them the top cash payout of $100,000.

At present, Miller stands at the forefront of the Toyota Series Southwestern division, boasting an impressive 260 points. The next event is scheduled to unfold at Toledo Bend from March 26-28, a renowned body of water that Miller navigates with intimate familiarity.

With his sights set on even greater achievements in the years to come, Colby Miller remains steadfast in his pursuit of excellence, armed with determination, skill, and fantastic sponsors. “I’ve been with Epic since the very beginning. It’s a company that just feels like family and is there for me no matter what, on and off the water.”
