CELEBRATING THE 4TH of JULY IN KEY WEST
Other than Christmas, the 4th of July is my favorite holiday celebrating our independence and the people that serve and served in the military to keep us free. This is a wonderful time to enjoy boating and fishing all around our state. The weather is beautiful and some of our waters are pristine, offering opportunities (inshore and offshore) for boating, fishing, beaching and waterside dining.

My 1st Mate, Vicki and I will be joining long-time client and friend, Ron and Lucinda Defreitas aboard their new 36ft. Yellowfin in Key West. We plan on departing from the Sanibel Harbor Yacht Club on Saturday, July 1st. We will spend every opportunity fishing for Dolphin, Tuna, Snappers and Groupers while relaxing on a sand bar, July 4. One other day will be set aside to visit Ft. Jefferson. Vicki and I will return by car on July 5th to pick up 2nd Mate, Moby Dick (Chocolate Lab) from the kennel as I have charters scheduled with other good clients who are celebrating the holiday week in SW Florida with their families. The Defreitas’s will ‘carry-on’ their venue for another few days.

Meanwhile, back here at home, Red Snapper season is open. Plan on a long run to the gulf to 150 plus feet (50-60 miles out) to catch this specie. Red and Black Grouper, African Pompano and other Snapper species are also open.
Inshore, the tides are good and water levels high. Catch Snook just off the beaches and Redfish in the shallows of the back areas around the Mangroves. Seatrouts are in the deeper grass flats of Pine Island Sound in around 3 to 5 feet of water. The forecast for the week is good for both inshore and offshore.
