Brody Campbell dominated the Toyota Series Southwestern Division season opener on Sam Rayburn Reservoir, securing his second career Toyota Series win with a three-day total of 70 pounds, 5 ounces. Despite facing challenging conditions on the final day, the Ohio-based pro adjusted his approach and maintained a comfortable lead, finishing ahead of Kaden Mueck (64-14) and Dakota Ebare (63-15).
A Strong Start and Adjustments on Day 3
Campbell entered Championship Saturday with a 9-pound, 13-ounce cushion, chasing Colby Miller’s three-day Toyota Series record of 77-7. Although he fell short of that mark, his final-day bag of 16 pounds ensured a decisive victory.
“I’d never even been to Texas until last year,” Campbell said. “Sam Rayburn sets up nothing like the Ohio River, where I grew up, but I’ve already caught five fish over 10 pounds down here. I like it.”

Campbell’s winning pattern involved targeting offshore timber in 30 to 50 feet of water. Using a Deps Sakamata Shad on a 3/8-ounce jighead, he landed an 8-8 largemouth on Day 1, jumpstarting his 27-1 limit. He backed it up with 27-3 on Day 2, securing a significant lead. However, strong winds on Day 3 disrupted his primary area, forcing him to adapt.
“The wind kinda ruined my spot,” Campbell admitted. “It was rough out there. I gave it about 90 minutes, but I had to scrap everything and just go fishing.”
Seeking calmer waters, he moved to a protected pocket he had never fished before. There, he found threadfin shad and a productive corner that helped him secure his limit.
Momentum and Future Plans
Campbell’s victory came with a $67,522 payout, including $35,000 in Phoenix Boats contingency money.
“I just came from Florida, where I won a big team tournament on the Kissimmee Chain last week. I have good momentum going,” he said. “I spent over 300 days on the water last year, so it feels good to start the season strong.”
