Borden Light Celebrating Year No. 17 With Special Guests
The primary organizer of this weekend’s 17th annual Borden Light Marina Poker Run in Fall River, Mass., Mike Lund laughed yesterday when asked about Florida Powerboat Club head Stu Jones participating in this year’s event. Lund has enjoyed a few Florida Powerboat Club poker runs, including the outfit’s signature Key West event, so he is eager to have Jones in his own backyard.
“He’s going to be in my territory now,” Lund quipped.

Including to Jones’ Top Gun Flight 1130 Cigarette Racing Team 38 Top Gun, 30 boats currently are registered for the run, which kicks off Saturday after brunch from Borden Light Marina and heads around Jamestown and then to Newport, R.I., before returning to its starting point for a dinner celebration.
Lund is expecting 65 to 75 boats signed up by Friday. Proceeds of the event will be donated to the Make-A-Wish programs in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, as well as the Tunnel To Towers Foundation.
“Last year, we were the largest donors to Make-A-Wish of Massachusetts and Rhode Island,” Lund said.
Dan Kleitz, the longtime national sales manager for Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats in Bristol, R.I., also we be in the poker run. Kleitz has worked closely with Lund on events, such as last month’s Outerlimits Factory Fun Run, during the years.
“It’s nice that, being a local run, we get to spend a lot of time with our local customers and friends,” Kleitz said. “It’s always great to catch up with everyone.”

For Jones, who is just past the midway of his annual Summer Poker Run tour, committing to the Borden Light event created an opportunity to participate in another poker run this month. Following this weekend’s happening, his next stop will be Burlington, Vt., for the August 18-19 Lake Champlain Poker Run.
“I read the speedonthewater.com coverage of the Lake Champlain Poker Run going into its fifth year and I couldn’t resist,” he said. “I just booked it yesterday morning.
“The Lake Champlain organizers are helping me with transportation of the rig from Borden Light to Vermont,” he added. “That was a big part of my decision and I’m very grateful for it.”
