Bajío Vega Violet Mirror Red Base – Product Review
As anglers, we are always facing changing conditions. From dawn till dusk, from blue skies to grey days, all that surrounds us while we are on the water is constantly mutating, starting from light. This is why I believe in the importance of having the right color of polarized lenses for the situation.
Polarized sunglasses cut out the glare of light on the surface of the water, increasing depth perception and contour, allowing you to see more efficiently what’s hiding underneath, and better understand the environment you are facing. In addition, and not less important, polarized sunglasses protect your eyes from the harm of direct-and-indirect sunlight, keeping your eyes fresh and reducing fatigue.

I had the pleasure of testing one of their newest lenses color, the Violet Mirror Red Base, in the Vega frame.
The Lenses – Violet Mirror Red Base
As mentioned earlier, we are always facing changing conditions. This is why I was thrilled to try a specific low-light condition lens to use this past winter and whenever conditions called. I was not disappointed.
The Bajío Violet Mirror Red Base polarized lens are ideal for cloudy overcast conditions, mountain environments, and low light situations, and I always carry them with me whenever I’m planning on getting out at dawn and stay out all day, or just in case the weather decides to change. As an angler, whenever I get out in the water the first thing I try to do is to connect with the environment I am facing, and these glasses became a very useful tool to help me do that.
The lenses are very bright and high contrast, and that allowed me several times to see clearly fish and pieces of structures in the water even in situations where there was not enough light to make them visible to the naked eye. This is where I noticed the efficacy of Bajío’s light management technology. At 20% VLT (Visible Light Transmittance), the Violet Mirror Red Base give your eyes a sort of orange/yellow tint that really brightens things up and enhances contrast. Nonetheless, while still providing all that light, Bajío’s LAPIS technology still block harmful blue and yellow light by 95% (445nm) and 90% (580nm), keeping your eyes fresh and protected all day.
The Frame – Vega
For what concerns the frame, the Bajío Vega is probably the overall best-fitting fishing frame I have ever tried. The lenses are wide, allowing for a great peripheral vision, and the glasses fit very tight to the skin, virtually blocking all external light that’s not coming through the lenses. This makes them perfect for sight fishing applications, as well as providing better protection from the sunlight when fishing offshore.
The frame is made of durable bio-based nylon which makes them very lightweight, comfortable to wear, and eco-friendly. Moreover, the frame has proprietary ergonomic rubber nose pads and temple tips, keeper holes and vented rubber side shields. It comes in a case made of sustainable cactus leather and a very cool-looking bag made of recycled material.
