Bajío Sunglasses Partners with Cool Effect for Trash to Treasure Campaign
Leaders in Performance Fishing Eyewear Adopt New Strategy to Maintain Carbon-Neutral Status
New Smyrna Beach, FL (September 21, 2022) – Bajío, maker of blue-light filtering, sustainably-made, performance sunglasses built to save the world’s saltwater flats and estuaries, is proud to announce a new partner in its sustainability journey: Cool Effect. This globally recognized non-profit platform is successfully reducing carbon pollution, through its Trash to Treasure initiative.
Trash to Treasure is a project that benefits the island of Mauritius and is designed to capture the methane being released from the island’s only landfill. The captured methane is then used to supply the island with clean, renewable energy instead of importing dirty coal. Four of Bajío’s most popular bio-based frames are manufactured in Mauritius, a major factor in the eyewear brand’s decision to support Trash to Treasure.
“Bajío believes that carbon, and the global warming crisis it has produced, are the biggest threat to our low-lying flats communities and saltwater fly fishing,” says Bajío founder Al Perkinson. “It’s our goal to make sure we are not part of that problem but instead are highly involved in the solution, hence our decision to be a carbon-neutral brand from inception. We are proud of our first carbon-neutral initiative restoring mangroves in Myanmar and excited to execute the next chapter in our journey to combat climate change and its effects on our beloved saltwater flats.”
Brokering Bajío’s partnership with Cool Effect is Rick Crawford of Emerger Strategies, whose goal is to see the fly fishing industry become the first carbon-neutral industry in the U.S. Emerger Strategies helps companies assess their carbon footprints, take steps to reduce them, and then to offset what is left.
